I have 2 meals a day, if I have more, it troubles me at night. I’ve tried eating early but nothing changed. 2 meals and 1 snack are ideal for me but of course, it can change from one person to another. I generally like to keep my meals light. So, most mornings I go for acai bowl or porridge. But when it is the weekend, I like spoiling myself with a sandwich like this. This is also a great option to take to work for lunch, for a post-strength workout meal, or a nice vegan breakfast option for gentlemen as they need more calories compared to ladies.
It will literally take 10 minutes to put this together. And don’t forget, you can build your sandwich with whatever you like or available at home. Let’s get to it!
Ingredients:
- Tofu, one solid block
- Pick 1/2 cup of your favorite vegan barbecue sauce and set it aside.
- 14 cups of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or agave nectar)
- a teaspoon of smoked paprika
- 1/2 a teaspoon of dried garlic
- An Onion Powder Half Teaspoon
- season to taste with pepper and salt
- Four hamburger buns
- Toppings like pickles, finely sliced onions, lettuce, and whatever else you prefer.
Instructions:
To prepare tofu, drain and squeeze it to remove any excess moisture. The tofu block can be sliced or chopped into squares, whichever is most convenient. To ensure that the marinade sticks to the tofu slices, it is best to pat them dry with a paper towel.
Mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper into the barbecue sauce, soy sauce, maple syrup/agave nectar, and a bowl. Blend all of the ingredients for the tofu marinade by whisking them together.
Before marinating, arrange sliced tofu in a shallow dish or a resealable bag. Make sure each piece of tofu is thoroughly covered by the marinade. Marinating the tofu for 30–60 minutes is optimal, but even overnight in the fridge will bring out more flavor.
Tofu can be grilled or pan-fried.
Option 1: Barbecuing It’s best to have a grill or grill pan nice and hot before using it. Lightly oil the grill grate or frying pan to prevent food from sticking. Marinated tofu slices should be grilled for about five minutes total (four minutes per side).
Prepare a pan or nonstick skillet to medium heat for option two, pan-frying. Lightly grease the pan. Marinated tofu slices can be fried for around 3–4 minutes on each side in a hot skillet to get a golden crisp texture.
If you like your burgers on toasted buns, that’s an option. Put the sandwiches together. Grilled or pan-fried tofu slices should be used to line the bottom of each bun. Pickles, thinly sliced onions, lettuce, and extra sauces are all great options for toppings. Top with the remaining bun half.
Remember to serve the BBQ tofu sandwiches while the tofu is still warm. Serve them with coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or a light salad for a filling dinner. Enjoy the dazzling array of flavors and textures that each bite brings.
Conclusion
The BBQ tofu sandwich is a flavorful alternative to traditional barbecue sandwiches that is sure to please vegans and vegetarians. By marinating and grilling or pan-frying tofu slices, you can make a smoky, tangy, and delectable sandwich filler that is on par with its meat counterparts. Whether you’re a vegan or just looking to try something new, the BBQ tofu sandwich will satisfy your taste buds.
