Homemade bread is the most experimented with and featured food on social media since the quarantine started. I tried a few recipes but my father’s recipe is still my favorite. It is easy, quick, and tasty.

If you prefer a different shape to hamburger bread, you can change the mold you are using and voila, it is done!

INGREDIENTS(154Kcal per bun):

  • 4 cups (800gr) flour of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon or 1 sachet of instant yeast – I used this, as the lockdown started I purchased the big pack
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water

Instructions:

  • Warm water and sugar in a shallow bowl will get the yeast fermenting. Distribute the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it begins to froth. This demonstrates the viability and readiness of the yeast.
  • To prepare the dough, mix the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast and olive oil. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to mix the ingredients into a rough dough.
  • To knead the dough, place it on a surface coated with flour. With your heels, press the dough away from you, fold it back, and turn it once to begin kneading. After another 8-10 minutes of kneading, the dough should be smooth, elastic, and return to its original shape when squeezed.
  • For the first rise, grease a clean bowl with olive oil and transfer the dough to it. It takes around an hour to two hours for the dough to double in size when left in a warm, draft-free area. Wrap a kitchen towel or plastic wrap around the bowl to keep the contents inside.
  • After the dough has risen, it needs to be gently shaped to eliminate air pockets. Place it on a floured surface and work it into a ball; then roll it out into a rectangle and tuck the ends in to create a loaf. After the loaf has been made, place it on a baking sheet that has been greased or lined with parchment paper.

  • To complete the second rise, cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and set it aside to rise for 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius) during the dough’s second rising.
  • Once the dough has finished its second rise, score the top lightly with a sharp knife or draw ornamental slashes. This contributes to the rise of the bread while it bakes. In a preheated oven, bake the loaf for 25 to 30 minutes, or until it is golden brown and hollow when tapped.
  • The bread should be removed from the oven and allowed to cool completely on a wire rack before being cut and served. Wait at least 15 to 20 minutes before slicing. Then, savor the moment as you sink your teeth into a crusty slice of bread that’s supple and soft on the inside that you cooked yourself.

Conclusion

Baking your own bread is a satisfying hobby that can warm the heart and the stomach. This recipe is for a simple loaf of fresh bread that may be tailored to your preferences. The best reward for every occasion is handmade bread, so grab your ingredients, tie on an apron, and get started on the adventure.
